Grandparents Day 2021 is September 12th! I cherished my relationship with my grandparents and celebrate the relationship my daughter has developed with hers. We grow a “farm”, play games, travel, laugh, and read LOTS of books. Grandparents are the best.
Celebrate with these picture books for Grandparents Day! All links to Indiebound.org or try your local library and booksellers.
Babysitting is hard work. Usually the “baby” sitting doesn’t actually have a baby. Or sitting. How about babysitting grandparents?! Preschool aged kids will love this upside down tale of being the sitter for the grownups. Whimsical and joyful- a great gift or read aloud when the grandparents are in town. Dare you not to giggle!
Grandma Mimi’s purse is practically just like Mary Poppins. When she comes to town, she always brings a purse filled with wonders. Trinkets, doodads and “necessities”. These colorful illustrations launch you into the anticipation immediately. This one holds a soft spot in my heart because I SO remember those days with my grandmother.
One, Two, Grandma Loves You. A perfect way to start off this simple rhyming book of a grandmother and grandchild’s countdown. Illustrator Dan Yaccharino, one of my favorites, creates modern and vibrant images to keep this sweet rhyme. Great for the toddlers in your family.
And the Grandpapas…
Every Thursday, Grandpa lives his quiet routines including the visit from his granddaughter. This tender story is one of those treasures where the illustrations tell more than the words. Soft illustrations and sparse text make this delightful for younger kids.
Yes, that Paul McCartney. Hang on to your hats- this Grandude has a magic compass. Prepare yourselves to be whisked away on globe-trotting, nail-biting, and glorious adventures with this grandude! Older readers will love this. Grandparents will love listening to Paul’s accent on the audio recording… And yes, there is a sequel- Grandude’s Green Submarine.
