Mount Washington Cog Railway Family Holiday Weekend (Bretton Woods | 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) :: Santa and Mrs. Claus will be joining the train crew once again this year for an exciting round trip ride up through the winter wonderland of Mount Washington on Thanksgiving Weekend, this November 25-27. Passengers can visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, listen to the guided tour of the brakemen, and move around the train to take photos and enjoy the sweeping panorama of the Presidential Mountains, located in Northern New Hampshire. Children even get a special gift from the Christmas couple! At the Railway’s Marshfield Base Station, passengers can treat themselves to complimentary hot cocoa and homemade cookies while joining in fun holiday games and family activities before or after their train ride. Booking in advance is recommended for the Cog Railway’s holiday trains online here or by calling 603-278-5404. Cog trains run every weekend throughout November, Santa trains depart at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Boarding begins 15 minutes before departure. It is recommended that riders arrive at least 45 in advance of departure times. The Cog is located just 6 miles from Bretton Woods on Base Road, Marshfield Station, NH.

Ho-Ho-Hobo Santa Express (Lincoln | 1 p.m.) :: Make plans to join a holiday tradition, the Santa Express Trains. It departs Hobo Junction Station in Lincoln, NH at 1 p.m. for the one hour and twenty minute trips that start the Friday after Thanksgiving and operate weekends until just before Christmas. The station and cars are completely decorated for the season and Santa Claus and his Elves are on each and every trip! Once on board, everyone enjoys hot chocolate and each family receives a box of holiday cookies–plus, each child receives a special gift from Santa while on the train! Advance reservations are strongly suggested as these trains often sell out. Train Fare: Coach Class: $20.00 for all ages 3 and up; First Class $25.00 for all ages 3 and up; ages 2 and under are free! (Note: the difference between Coach Class and First Class seating is all First Class seating is at tables).

Santa’s Holiday Express (North Conway | 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) :: Santa is on board with his mischievous elves, who will share their hot chocolate and cookies with everyone. They’ll also take your picture, if you ask nicely, so be sure to bring your camera! There are two train excursions, both to Conway: 11:30 and 1:30 to (about an hour round-trip).

November 25 – December 3

The Polar Express (Portland, ME | times vary) :: The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum presents another season of magic as The Polar Express™ train departs Portland for a journey to the “North Pole.” The adventure begins at Ocean Gateway where passengers arrive to meet the Conductor and board the train. Holiday decorations inside the train will add to the festive atmosphere as guests on board mingle with the Conductor, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies served in style by our chefs, and listen to a reading of the enchanting story over our sound system. Santa will greet children aboard the train, while passengers sing along to carols as they journey back to the train station from a special outpost of the North Pole. Every child receives a special bell as a souvenir of the event.
