Do you have the Switch Witch pay a visit on the night of Trick-Or-Treat?
For those unfamiliar with this fun tradition, the Switch Witch is a friendly witch. She comes to your house while all the kids are fast asleep and switches out their pile of candy for a new toy, game, or stuffed animal.
My girls (9 and 11) love this tradition and look forward to a visit from the Switch Witch every Halloween. After all the trading, sorting, and organizing of candy, I recommend having your kids pick out their favorite candy they want to keep and then put the rest back in their bucket to leave outside their bedroom door. They will wake up in the morning to discover a gift outside their door instead!
I find getting dressed up in their costume, going trick-or treating with friends, partaking in the candy swap, and then enjoying a few pieces of candy that night as well as saving a few pieces for later is the perfect scenario for us. The candy doesn’t have to sit around in the house for months and the kids get a fun toy to play with in exchange. It is a win-win all around for my family. But I know this may not work for everyone.
I do recommend discussing this with your kids to see if they want to partake in this tradition or not. I have found that most kids love this tradition but if they choose the candy instead that is fine too. No need to force it. You can always ask them again next year.
Allergy Friendly Candy
If you are looking for candy that is free of food dyes, artificial flavors, and high fructose corn syrup, just to name a few, we love Unreal and Yum Earth. They are still loaded sugar and delicious but they are a great allergy friendly, cleaner option. Because we have food sensitivities in our family and I like to avoid the additives when I can, I buy a couple bags of the cleaner candy and then have them swap it out.
What are your thoughts on the Switch Witch? How do you handle the candy craze?
