Have you hit the end of Netflix? Looking for a new show to get sucked in to after the kids go to bed? You’ve probably heard of all the hit shows your friends ARE watching, but what about all the best shows you haven’t seen? I am here to help, with a list of suggestions for everyone! Here are some suggestions of the best Shows to stream that you may not be watching:

Woman eating popcorn on couch - best shows you aren't watching1. Ted Lasso (series):

Suggested for sports fans and/or watch with a spouse.
Where to stream it: Apple TV.

Jason Sudeikis stars as an American who goes abroad to coach a football (soccer) team. Stay with me, it is funny & heart warming. I didn’t think I would enjoy this, I don’t know the first thing about UK Soccer. The best part is Ted Lasso doesn’t either! He is the motivational coach rooting for everyone on and off the field. With only 10 episodes, you’ll fly through this. Already slated for a second season, I would recommend watching this with your sports loving spouse / husband and watch it together.

2. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (series):

Suggested for Music & theatre lovers.
Where to stream it: NBC, HULU & YouTube TV.

A quirky show about a girl with the power to hear other’s innermost thoughts — but through song and often interpretive dance. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and cry some more! It’s upbeat and the characters are great. A refreshing show that you probably aren’t watching. I’d recommend this for anyone who loves music or theatre. There are a few actors you may know from things like Pitch Perfect and Glee. A diverse cast with some legends like Peter Gallagher, Lauren Graham, and Mary Steenburgen. Currently in its second season, it’s a great series to try out to see if it fits. One of best shows to watch on Hulu.

3. Trial of Chicago 7 (movie):

Suggested for activists.
Where to stream it: Netflix

If you are intrigued by history, activism or our legal system, this is a great movie for you! Set in the 1960s at the height of the Vietnam War and the assassinations of multiple peace fighters. Great cast, I paused the movie to google facts several times because I wanted to know more! One of the “seven” actually married Jane Fonda, which is probably the least interesting thing he ever did. Yet brings me to my next show which stars Jane Fonda…

I really enjoyed this movie. Honestly if you just want to watch something that may peak your interest more on such a pivotal time and year in our country I would suggest this one.

4. Grace & Frankie (series):

Suggested for the comedy lovers.
Where to stream it: Netflix.

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are a refreshing duo I didn’t know I needed. I was late to the game with this — one of the best shows to watch ever. Maybe you are also? This series has six seasons (soon to be seven and their final) I thought this was a show about old ladies (Pass) and while that is true, it is hilarious and honest! Dealing with divorce, friendship and family drama. Along with a long list of relatable issues these two get themselves in. There’s no excuse NOT to try this one out!

5. In and of Itself (documentary).

Suggested for the believers of magic;Where to stream it: Hulu

I’m not even sure how to describe this, but I saw that in the best way possible! It instantly peaked my interest and I was sold from the opening scene. A one man show meets illusionists meet theatrical performance. I can’t count how many times I said” how did he do that!?” It made me laugh, cry and believe. It is like nothing else you will watch on tv. I was in awe and at the same time made me reflect on my own life and identity. Rotten tomatoes is giving it a 100%! It’s one of those shows you have to just try and go along for the ride!

6Normal People (series):

Suggested for the book lovers or if you’re all in your feelings.
Where to stream it: Hulu.

Based on a best-selling novel written by Sally Rooney. This show is about a relationship between a high school boy and girl. Showing how it changes through the spans of years as they grow up and weave in and out of each other’s lives. It will remind you how complicated intimacy can be, especially when you’re young. Set in Ireland, it is beautiful, heartbreaking and sexy.

7. Kiss the Ground (Documentary):

Suggested for the environmentally aware or if you want to learn more.
Where to stream it: Netflix.

There are several well done documentaries about our planet.(check them all out) Yet,I enjoyed this one because it was different. Yes, it goes over how we need to change our ways to help the planet. This one talks about how soil is the way to actually make that change. You heard it right, in this doc experts explain how soil is the star of the show! Not only that, it discusses how it can be used to help our farmers and food sources for more sustainability. This one has great thought provoking information and an uplifting message.

8. Mrs. America (series):

Suggested for Historical lovers.
Where to stream it: Hulu, YouTube, and Google Play.

Set during the equal rights amendment in the 1970s. Highlighting multiple women who fought for women’s rights. It left me feeling grateful for all that was done to pave the way for us. The cast is spectacular including Cate Blanchett, Uzo Aduba, Rose Byrne, Sarah Paulson and many more.

The acting is obviously fantastic, and the writing does not shy away from showing the complexities of then and now. Shining a light on how far we have come, yet how far we still have to go. This show is like a huge history lesson and so powerful!

9. Succession (series)

Suggested for the drama watchers; Where to stream it: HBO.

Another one that isn’t “new” but I don’t know how I didn’t find out about this one sooner! A more serious series that will suck you in. A wealthy, uptight family that all run a business together. With all the family drama that ensues. Great characters, backstabbing, lies, twists and turns. You’ll be up all night watching this one. Two seasons with another coming hopefully soon. (Covid has stalled filming like many others)

10. Murder on Middle Beach (documentary):

Suggested for my crime loving ladies; Where to stream it:HBO.

This limited series is only four episodes but has so much packed into each one. One of the best shows you aren’t watching, to be sure. A mother is murdered at her home. Years later, her son makes a documentary interviewing family and law enforcement in an attempt to find out who his mother was as a person. While in hopes of also finding “who did it”. I need more people to watch it so we can discuss! Yes, this is a show about murder, but this is not a really bloody gory one.

It has money laundering, family secrets, multiple people in jail, alcoholism, and you honestly won’t know who to believe. I would recommend this one for people who love a good mystery or crime podcasts. There’s something for everyone, and it’s so well done.

Bridgerton on Netflix: DUH! If you haven’t started, I’m not sure why! One best shows you haven’t watched if you’re living under a rock. Ha! Sex, romance, pretty costumes, balls and THE DUKE (drool).

Down to Earth with Zac Efron on Netflix: Another great documentary on travel and the environment. Each episode offers a different view point and from a different area of the world.
