Mindful Mom : Creating A Morning Routine

0

Mornings can be a stressful time for everyone in the house. Giving yourself some time to ease into the day can set a positive tone for you and your family. Taking time to hydrate, be mindful, and move a little doesn’t have to take a lot of time . Even just waking up 15 minutes earlier can be all you need. If you are lucky, your kids may want to join you!

Hydrate

I know we all want to reach straight for the coffee as soon as we wake up. But consider drinking a big glass of water before hitting the caffeine. Drinking water first thing in the morning re-hydrates your body after a night’s sleep. It also can help your metabolism get a kick start (check out this study by Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism), and even flush out toxins. Shoot for a glass or two when you wake up!

mind-ful-ness

a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations

Mindfulness

The word mindfulness is popular these days for good reason. Setting aside a few minutes to be mindful in the morning can keep you focused all day. This doesn’t mean you have to sit for an hour and meditate. Writing in a journal for a few minutes, taking a few deep breaths, or even sitting quietly can work wonders in creating the calm you need to keep you focused on the present.

Movement

Moving in the morning gets our blood flowing, digestion working, and can boost our mood. Again, this doesn’t mean you have to run a half marathon before your kiddos wake up or hit the gym for an hour. Though if that’s your jam, I applaud you! It can be just a few simple stretches, a quick yoga practice, or taking a short walk. Anything that feels good in your body.

Have you created a mindful routine for your mornings? What have you found to be the most helpful in getting ready for a GOOD day?
