Outdoor Dining: A Mom’s Quest to Unearth the Best of the Seacoast

2

When I was a child, I considered a culinary delight to be a chicken nugget Happy Meal. Fast-forward a few decades and my joy now lies in unearthing the Seacoast’s culinary treasures (especially in the warmer months!) Dining out (other than pizza) is an exciting and rare experience since I’ve become a mom. But fortunately, the Seacoast offers amazing outdoor dining options with a view, making my precious outings that much more enjoyable. Keep reading for a few of my favorite eateries that you and your family MUST try!

“There is absolutely no substitute for the best. Good food cannot be made of inferior ingredients masked with high flavor. It is true thrift to use the best ingredients available and to waste nothing.” – James Beard

Savor seared diver scallops (my favorite dish) or their signature Little Harbor Fish & Chips while overlooking Little Harbor in New Castle. Perhaps I become nostalgic sitting on the teak deck when I gaze at the yachts in the marina as memories of visiting family on Long Island flood my mind. We would stroll the streets of Sag Harbor and pick a restaurant where the waiter would inevitably tell me which celebrity I just missed. The same wonderful experience can be found here on the property of the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel.

Take a stroll through Market Square or Strawbery Banke before you make your way over to Bow Street (perfect date night location!) Downtown Portsmouth has so many incredible options when it comes to dining. If you are in the mood to choose à la carte from a raw bar, order some sushi (try the Fried Oyster Maki), or devour surf and turf, Surf Restaurant is for you. Appreciate an intimate evening on their cozy deck (only four tables) overlooking Portsmouth Harbor.

One of my family’s favorite spots is Applecrest Farm in Hampton Falls. When the farm announced they were building a bistro, we jumped for joy! Cherish an afternoon picking your own fruits with your little ones, and then grab a bite to eat at the Farm Bistro (take your pick of breakfast, lunch, or dinner.) Your children will love this farm-to-table menu as much as you will. The kids can choose a “nitrate-free beeler farm dog” to satisfy their young palates, while you enjoy grass-fed beef (the Bistro Burger is the best I’ve ever had.) This spot is a must! Relax on the patio with your family overlooking the farm’s working fields and orchards for an unforgettable dining experience.

Have you experienced these amazing dining spots yet? What are your favorite outdoor dining treasures?

  1. The Oar House deck is our favorite… it’s casual out door dining for everyone. They have a great kid’s menu, views of the tug boats, and best of all serve the entire restaurant menu outside. Get there early though!

    • Jess, I completely agree! The Oar House is amazing. I haven’t been in a while but I remember having an amazing salad. I was very impressed! Thank you for supporting the blog!
