Top Ten Reasons I’m Happy it’s August

0

I know, I know–back in May I couldn’t wait for summer to come. Well, now that it’s here, I’m ready for the next thing. The grass is always greener, right? These are my top 10 reasons to be excited that it’s August:

  1. By August, there is so much sand in my kids’ beds that I’m surprised there is still sand left at the beach.
  2. Strawberry season is over. Raspberries are on the way out. Need I say more?
  3. I have about 8,794 mosquito bites. Unfortunately, those suckers love me.
  4. I am beginning to crave a pumpkin spice latte. Honestly, I love pumpkin flavored everything. (Psst: the PSL has it’s own Twitter Account).
  5. My kids have no clue what day of the week it is. When they ask, I have to look it up on my phone. Monday? Saturday? It all feels the same.
  6. We’re running out of bug spray (see #2) and sunscreen. Target has un-cerimoniously moved on from beach supplies to school supplies.
  7. We have just one usable shovel and one bucket (without the handle) in our beach toy repertoire. The rest have been absconded by friends, lost at the beach or intentionally given away because I don’t want to have to carry it!
  8. It’s still light out past 8:30, which means the children think they should still be awake. I have to explain the relativity of time on a nightly basis, which exhausts me more than the sun rising before 6:00 a.m.
  9. My children’s Crocs and flip-flops no longer fit, which forces me into the annual conundrum of either squeezing their feet into shoes that are obviously too small or being forced to buy new sandals that will surely not fit next summer.
  10. September is right around the corner and is absolutely amazing here on the Seacoast! The beaches are near empty, the water is warm, the kids are back in school, and local farmer’s markets are bursting with awesome produce.

Last but not least, if you thought pre-season at the beach was fun, you are going to LOVE post-season at the beach!
